We are already used to ordering almost everything online like food, groceries, everyday essentials, and much more.

To no one’s surprise, the demand for online deliveries increased tenfold since the pandemic started.

Apart from online delivery apps and platforms, there are also a bunch of people whom we need to thank – delivery drivers.

Mighty front-liners.

Medical and health professionals aren’t the only front-liners serving the community.

People working in the food and beverage industry, retail stores, malls, markets, grocery stores, and many others – they too are considered front-liners.

Delivery drivers are among them, too because they pick up your stuff and bring it to your home. They are putting their lives at risk by simply being outside and dropping whatever in different areas and locations.

An online delivery.

Like many of us have been doing, one day, Jennifer Weiss of Weber County also did her grocery shopping online. When her groceries were being delivered, she never expected what she was about to witness.

What she saw through her doorbell camera was an elderly man delivering her goods.

Due to his age, he seemed to struggle on the stairs. However, it’s pretty obvious the man was still being careful of Weiss’s package.

When talking about the incident, Weiss said:

“It made me kind of feel guilty, to have someone else deliver stuff, just cuz’ I didn’t want to go to the store.”

The sight of an old man doing such a job broke her heart. Weiss was deeply concerned about the delivery guy, it made her wonder about things:

“Who he was and what his situation was, why he was doing deliveries, if he was going to continue doing deliveries when snow starts falling when stairs and driveways are icy,” she said.

The thoughts of the old man haunted her, so she decided to do something for him:

“I had a few friends who said he shouldn’t have to be delivering, what if we all pitched in and gave him a big tip,” said Weiss.

She even started searching for the man on social media.

In a Facebook post that Weiss shared in You know your from Ogden if page, Weiss wrote:

“Ogden, i need your help identifying this man! He did nothing wrong- in fact, just the opposite. He delivered a fairly small grocery order of mine from Walmart today and had a difficult time getting up and down my stairs (I only know this from watching my doorbell camera afterwards). He took such care with all of my bags even though he clearly had some mobility difficulties. My heart broke seeing this.”

Pretty soon, one of her relatives saw the social media post. They know the old man who was later on identified by his first name, Larry – a veteran.

What made the veteran apply as a delivery driver?

“I had a stroke in June, so I was just making some extra money cuz’ our swamp cooler blew off our roof, we have a big hole, I got it taped up, needed some extra money to fix that,” Larry said.

Despite his age, he decided not to be a burden to other people, that’s why he applied for the job. He is such a self-reliant man.

It’s all thanks to the kind people of Ogden.

Weiss went for a donation drive by posting Larry’s Venmo information. As expected, the donations came in pouring in like rain.

“Posted his Venmo information, and I think that the donations just started coming in like crazy,” she said.

And Larry was utterly surprised by the amount of help he received:

“It just blew up like crazy, there’s so many nice people around here.”

With everyone’s help, Larry no longer needs to do deliveries. Not only that but when the donations kept on coming in, Larry and his wife decided they had received enough to fix their roof. They even urged people to share their donations with others:

“And I was just trying to get them to donate to the food banks and toys for tots or something, instead of giving me money,” Larry said.

Weiss added:

“It may seem so small, it may seem like it couldn’t amount to much, but you just never know when it could cause a snowball effect, a huge chain reaction, it could really make someone’s day, their life, it could be the positive that they need.”

We couldn’t agree more with that. This story is truly beautiful and we hope that it will inspire more people to do good towards others.
