Everyone is aware of power couple Barack and Michelle Obama. One thing that most people can agree on in the world of politics is that the former president and first lady are the definition of relationship goals. From when he was in office to know, it’s easy tot tell that the couple is crazy about each other, and recently they celebrated their special 27th wedding anniversary- ‘special’ just because they are celebrating as empty nesters.
The couple has been together 27 years, since they me in 1989 when Michelle was assigned to be Barack’s mentor at a law firm. Since then the two of them have been through some big life events, including a presidential election and serving two terms in the white house. “Marriage is a choice you make every day. You don’t do it because it’s easy, you do it because you believe in it. You believe in the other person,” Michelle explained in an interview. Barack and Michell have been through it all together and now that their daughters Sasha and Malia are off at college, they have a new set of adventures to explore together.

In a touching social media post last week, Michelle wished her hubby a happy anniversary. “27 years ago this guy promised me a life full of adventure. I’d say he delivered. Here’s to our next chapter of becoming empty nesters and discovering whats next- while still feeling the magic that brought us together all those years ago. Happy anniversary Barack.” the former first lady said on Twitter. And the former president had a message of his own for his wife, “Like the Beatles said: it gets better all the time. Thanks, babe, for 27 amazing years!” a simple post accompanied by a touching photo of the two to celebrate.

Not all couples are perfect though, and Michelle talks about this in her book and countless interviews. She wants everyone to know that though they look like they have everything, a marriage is work and they have had their ups and downs just like every other couple out there, something that isn’t seen due to the fact they were in the public eye so often. She also regularly talks marriage advice in her interviews as well. My husband is my teammate. If we are going to win this game together, he has to be strong and he has to be ok with me being strong. I do not want a weak player on my team, and nor does he.” she said in another interview, this time with friend Gayle King.
The Obama’s have been role models in nearly every way, a great president, a strong female, and great parents with successful children, there is a lot to admire about them, including their marriage. So happy 27th anniversary to the Obama’s, a true power couple.
