All dolled up and nowhere to go. Isn’t that pretty much every woman’s worst nightmare?

That’s even more true during the lockdown, when none of us is really supposed to go anywhere except work and the grocery store.

But for high-risk folks like 91-year-old Betty McDonald, even going outside of the house could be a death sentence.

So what’s a diehard fashionista gal Betty supposed to do? Throw a fashion show in her backyard, of course!

Some folks are lucky and their bosses are letting them work from home. But because they don’t have to go into an office, they don’t even bother to get dressed up anymore and are content with wearing their jammies all day.

Zoom meetings with the boss aren’t even a problem, since it’s easy to pull off the wardrobe equivalent of the mullet, with business attire on the top and a lazy Sunday afternoon on the bottom!

Even though Betty McDonald is no longer in the workforce, or even dating, that doesn’t mean she has stopped doing her hair and makeup, or wearing her favorite outfit.

Georiga, where Betty lives, is one of the few states that have opened up businesses early on during the pandemic. However, that doesn’t mean it’s actually safe for her to go out. She told CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL:

“It’s a very sad time, it’s heartbreaking.”

As someone who is in the high-risk age group, Betty doesn’t feel safe going outside and socializing. That hasn’t stopped her from getting all dolled up, though!

“I’ve got three closets full of clothes … and jewelry like you wouldn’t believe. I mentioned to my caretaker that I sure miss getting dressed up.”

Betty, who loves traveling and socializing, was having a hard time being cooped up indoors. So the 91-year-old’s caretaker, Kim Taylor, decided to do something fun to help take her mind off the coronavirus.

The two started doing daily fashion shows, with Kim as the high-fashion photographer, and Betty as the runway model.

“Every day she does a different outfit, and I take pictures.”

The sharp-looking woman, who at times looks like the Queen of England with her carefully procured outfits, shops for her wardrobe at Goodwill.

Kim has taken tons of photos of Betty wearing pretty, flowing skirts, old-school baubles, and elaborate Kentucky Derby-worthy hats!

Like any good fashionista, Betty carefully coordinates her outfits ahead of time. But, don’t let her age fool you – she’s anything but conservative!

“I like flashy stuff, as you can tell.”

Betty doesn’t have any kids and her husband passed away in 2007, but she does have other family, friends, and neighbors that she’s been sharing her fashion videos with.

Not surprisingly, Betty’s flamboyantly fun fashion shows have been helping to uplift everyone’s spirits!

“She has lots of people telling her that it’s reminded them that there’s more to life than watching television, and hearing the latest on COVID-19,” Kim said.

Thanks to Kim and their daily fashion shows, Betty has been able to feel less anxious about the pandemic.

“At 91, she is in the high-risk group as far as if something should happen, and she told me once, I don’t know how much longer I have to live, yet she can find joy in doing something for today.”
