Shoes fashion was just as important in the 90s as it is today. What may cause heads to turn to day in shock is the wearing of bobby socks with flip flops. Not so way back when it was the cool thing to do.

Light sweaters were acceptable but they had to be made of acrylic. They looked great when they were new but once washed they looked shabby as they were all piled up.

The 90’s crowd were right into incense that flooded the air with the aroma of Cool Water. It was a natural high for them.

On the weekends the photo booths would be lined up as it was a favourite pastime to have your pics takes with besties.

Forget about pastel fingernails. The girls were all about making a statement with those deep red nails.

Planners were a big thing but not the electronic version. In those days it was the hard cover type that would be used also for storing goodies like the pics from the photo booths.

The big thing in the 90’s was to use after shower splashes from Bath and Body Works as opposed to scented shower creams. It used to provide a real pick me up after a hot shower, and the scents would linger for hours.

There were plenty of drinks to choose from but if you were grabbing something for a friend you knew you could never go wrong as long as it was Fruitopia.

It was no secret that the VISCO girls of the nineties were into the VS body lotions especially the ones that smelled like pear. Fruity smells was the big thing then.

When it was time for a snack everyone headed for the SnackWells. There was always plenty of these in the pantry as the parents enjoyed them as much as the teens.

Faux fur was the in thing, but to really stand out in the crowd the girl had to be sporting a leopard pattern purse or even better a coat.

Everyone was into chips but plain chips just didn’t cut it. It had to be Sun Chips or nothing.

Wearing pants was not the “in” thing back them but the Cargo pants sure were. Looking back these looked like they were just pants too big for the wearer.

Even if you didn’t like them you had to pretend that you did because they were all the rage.

When it came to entertainment it was all about the thrill and what would get the adrenalin pumping. It was Buffy and the Vampire Slayer that was not to be missed.

Everyone would order their CDs from Columbia House because of its popularity and it was cheap.

The VSCO 90’s girls weren’t into the cell phones, but rather into the most current magazines of the time which was Seventeen and YM, although they kept this passion a secret.

Everyone had a Tamogotchi and hardly anybody looked after them so they died and eventually so did the fad.

When the girls didn’t want to reveal they reading the teen mags they would let on that Jane was the read of the day.

Appearance was everything and special emphasis was put on having pencil thin eyebrows. It was a disaster for them who could not achieve this look.

There was no buying shampoos from the dollar store. A girl was not fashionable if she wasn’t see buying Aveda. Only the less than fashionable were caught buying Pantene at that time.

The fashion lip look was to pencil outline the lips then fill in with a close to match color. This took developing some skills.

Every girl wanted to stand out in the crowd so they would attempt to achieve this by using roll on glitter. Which came in different colors.

Sometimes money was tight, so there was no budget for high priced bedroom furniture. Anyhow the style was to go with the inflatable chairs.

Hair wraps were stylish but only when going on vacation. It wasn’t an everyday trend.

It isn’t that there was a mosquito infestation or anything. It was just really cool to drape the bed with fanciful mosquito netting. It was considered to be romantic.

Yes there were body piercings in the nineties but it was kept secret from the parents where possible.

Bedding was really important for making a fashion statement. In the 90’s it was all about the stars and the moons.

There were songs that were considered to be tear jerkers and they would run in trends like Toni Braxton and Un-Break My Heart.

The 90’s was the crafty era. To really jazz up a room it meant using the sponge technique to paint them. It looked really neat at that time, and still has its place in modern décor today.

Skorts were a favourite back in the 90s and they have never lost their appeal. They are one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing that can be worn.

A big fad was anything that was glow in the dark. That included the glow in the dark stick on stars that would be kind of eerie at times, but no matter they were the fashion so you just put up with it.

Decorating with brightly coloured boas was everything and a favourite was to wrap picture frames in them.

Sandals were all the range but some of the girls wanted some height too, so they settled for the Platform sandals which was a win-win situation.

Carrying backpacks was still the trend back then as it is now. However it had to be a Jan Sports with a soft bottom or it didn’t count as being in fashion.

There were all kinds of trolls in the 90s but the one that a lot of people like to carry around with them were the mini trolls with the crazy hair for good luck.

The warm weather backpacks for school were much brighter and lighter and were able to hold a bottole of frozen water wrapped in aluminum foil.

Dragonflies were a favourite but were so butterflies, in the form of clips. These were often used for hair clips.

No girl or guy was going to get accused of bad breath so they always made sure they had Bianca on them. If not two at least one. No worries about running out.

Back in the day before Netflix, we actually had to go to the movie store and rent movies, usually on VHS. Blockbuster was a popular movie rental store. Now kids just download movies or stream.

If you wanted to be with the in crowd then you only wrote with Milky Gel Pens. Always had to make sure you had a few extras in case a friend ran out.

When we were finished watching our VHS movies, we had to rewind them. Companies would produce really neat VHS tape rewinders.

Dressing up the fingers was a must. This was down with some really gawdy looking rings. Although some of these are still popular with today’s VSCOs.

Before video games became popular we played a lot of board games, but this one was actually a hands on computer controlled memory game.

The western look could be fashionable but with caution. What was favoured was the Cowboy Starter Jackets which went really well with the large legged cargo pants.

When CD’s hit the market, it was quite the process to burn your favorite hits to CD’s. People were used to cassette tapes with sync dubbing features.

Some things just stay in style forever and that’s the category that the jean shorts fall into. This is something that the VSCO girls of today and the ones from the 90s have in common.

In the 90’s everyone had a home phone with bell canada calling features that were the bomb. Today many people have gotten rid of their landlines and strictly use their cellphones.

Neck Jewelery in the 90s was popular but only certain kinds. Such as hemp ropes and rice necklaces that were personalized

I did my resume on a floppy disk and now I can’t find any electronic device to read it. Today everyone uses flash drives or external drives.

All kinds of critters were depicted in 90s jewelry but dragonflies were particularly poplular. Often seen as part of what was used for the necklaces.

Gameboy as long as it was the clear one was acceptable and of course Nintendo 64 was the must have for those who were going to game.

This was a common apparatus you would find in gym class in the 90’s. Today trampolines have become very popular. There are many indoor trampoline facilities available for giving kids the exercise they need.
