Brain teasers and riddles are hit-or-miss for a lot of us. While some people love getting their hands on a difficult logic puzzle or a pattern of numbers, others just don’t have the patience to sit around and figure out the answer to a question that is specifically trying to trick them.
A few years ago, one particular riddle started making its rounds on the internet with people tricking their friends and family, recording their reactions, and uploading the videos to YouTube.
The brain teaser, often referred to as the “E-Y-E-S riddle” consists of asking someone what Y-E-S spells; the person will usually answer correctly and say ‘yes’— but when you then ask them what E-Y-E-S spells, their minds just cannot seem to process the information.
On June 21st, 2016, a woman named Michelle Bartlett uploaded a video of a man (who we assume is her spouse) attempting the infamous E-Y-E-S riddle.
The 1-and-a-half-minute video begins with Michelle asking the dreadlocked man what Y-E-S spells. Like most people faced with the brain teaser, he gets the first half right, answering ‘yes’.
There is, however, a look of curiosity on his face as he seems to be wondering where exactly this is going…
“What does E-Y-E-S spell?” Michelle asks him.
“E-YES,” the man responds confidently—and Michelle is immediately in stitches.
“What is happening?” the man asks her with a look of pure bewilderment on his face.
Michelle asks him the same question again. Still, however, he answers, “E-Yes.”
Each time he says the word, Michelle lets loose with another burst of infectious laughter.
“I can’t breathe!” she exclaims through cackling giggles.
“E-Y-E-S,” the man says. “E-YES!” before cracking up too, but it’s pretty obvious that he still has no idea what is going on. “What?!” he asks her, dying to know the reason for all the giggles.
Finally, hoping to figure this out, the man takes his finger, simulating the writing of the letters as he looks down at the imaginary word.
You can see the moment where it all clicks in, as he pauses for a moment. “Eyes,” he finally says in a deadpan voice— before cracking right up too!
Since being posted, Michelle’s hilarious video has been viewed over 268,000 times.
People can’t seem to get enough of the couple’s good-natured attitudes and infectious belly laughs. A few comments on the video include:
“I love the fact that he traced it with his finger. and the look on his face when he’s staring down is like “oh shit.”
“LMAOOO im so weak the fact he is laughing cause he comfused”
“her laugh is freakin contagious….”
By all appearances, this video is the only one that Michelle Bartlett has uploaded to YouTube.
There are, however, many other hilarious E-Y-E-S riddles floating around, like this one, where a boyfriend turns the tables by pulling the prank on his girlfriend with surprisingly hilarious results.
