We can spend hours on our hair to make it look absolutely perfect, but the one thing that’s going to keep your whole look together is hairspray. This is why it is a staple in most of our homes.
But did you know that hairspray can be used for other things than keeping your hair in place?
There are plenty of household uses for hairspray that can make your life just a little bit easier. And that’s something we all want!
Here are our favorite household hairspray hacks.
Makeshift Mace
Out of mace or pepper spray? You can also use hairspray to fend off assailants. It may not do as much damage as the real thing but it will deliver a painful burn if you spray it directly in the eyes giving you enough time to escape.
Housefly Killer
Houseflies can be impossible to catch once they start buzzing around your home. One way to put an end to all that buzzing is to hit them with a spritz of hairspray. This will instantly take them down.
Keep Your Wreath Fresh
Spraying your evergreen wreaths will help it to stay fresh looking longer.
Slip Free Insoles
Sometimes your feet can end up sliding around when wearing a new pair of shoes with socks or stockings. You can keep your grip by spraying the insoles of your shoes with some hairspray.
Fur Picker Upper
Spray a cloth with some hairspray and rub it over an area that is covered in pet hair. The fur should come right up and stick to your cloth.
Strengthen Pantyhose
Spray a pair of new pantyhose with hairspray and let them dry. This will strengthen them and prevent runs and tears. Hairspray can even help stop a run from getting better if you spritz some in the area that is running.
Keep Drapes Clean
Spray brand new or freshly cleaned drapes with some hairspray to help keep them dust free and clean. It will also prevent them from wrinkling. You should spray a few coats and let each coat dry in between.
Thread a Needle
If you’re having trouble getting a piece of thread into the eye of a needle, try spraying the end of your thread with some hairspray. This will stiffen the thread and make it easier to push through the needle.
Remove Hair Dye From Fabric
If you’ve got some hair dye on your clothing or towels you can soak the item in hair spray for a bit and wash as normal. This only works on non-chlorine hair dye.
Nail Polish Dryer
After applying two coats of nail polish and a clear coat, you can spray some hairspray over your freshly painted nails to speed up the drying process. Make sure you have enough distance between you and the spray.
Remove Sticker Glue
If you peeled a sticker or price tag and still have some sticky residue left behind, you can generously spray the spot with hairspray and use a scrubbing sponge or cloth to lightly buff it away.
Make Sidewalk Chalk Last
Did you a create a stunning work of art with sidewalk chalk? Spraying it with sidewalk chalk will help it from smudging and will make it last longer.
Ink and Lipstick Stains
Spray the stain with hairspray and let it sit for a few minutes before blotting it up. Then wash your garment as you would normally to completely remove the stain.
Make a Shoe Shine Last
After polishing your shoes, spray a coat of hairspray over your shoes to make them stay shinier longer. This will also help prevent the polish from rubbing off.
Nail Polish Spills
Acetone based nail polish remover can eat through synthetic fibers and plastic. A good alternative for cleaning up a nail polish spill is mixing some water with 15 to 20 squirts of hairspray and about 3 to 5 splashes of rubbing alcohol.
Take up as much of the nail polish as you can with a paper towel, then scrub the stain with your solution and blot with another paper towel.
