Watching “reality television” requires you to suspend your disbelief, surprisingly, a lot more than if you were watching an as-presented “fictional” show. Audiences want to believe what they’re watching is real, thereby allowing themselves to be taken along for the ride.
HGTV’s hit show, House Hunters, is no exception to that rule, and Twitter exploited that suspension.
The premise is simple. A couple will search for their ideal home with a preset budget to determine what they’re willing to spend. Twitter users and show fans noticed a big disconnect between what the couple does and what their budget is, and proceeded to push the limits of disbelief to humorous effects.
Whether it’s jobs with income that don’t match up, or just the opposing wants of the couple, nothing was off-limits.
Even the spin-off, House Hunters International, was not above ridicule.
Not even sure if “vajazzle” is a dirty word.
