If you often take the subway in New York City, chances are you’ve already met this incredibly talented performer. Meet Mike Yung, a 57-year old with one huge passion: singing.

In fact, the man has been singing in subway stations for over 37 years as his main source of income, sharing his beautiful voice with all of the commuters in the New York area.

The man decided that he would look for a bigger stage and signed up to audition for the twelfth season of America’s Got Talent, to see what the judges and the audience would think about his performance. After sharing his story before he started his act, he had a funny interaction with none other than Simon Cowell.

The rather strict judge asked him what the low point in his 37-year career was, to which he replied brilliantly:

“The low point is, on a Monday or a Tuesday, you don’t make that much. But people get paid on Thursday and Friday and then make up for it,” Mike said with a smile.

When asked why he auditioned for the show, he said that success is what you make it.

“There’s no better stage, there’s no better place to be, than right here.”

A guitarist comes up on the stage to assist him in his performance as the first tunes of “Unchained Melody” hit, a catchy song from 1955 that was made popular by the Righteous Brothers. Mike has a sparkling enthusiasm in his voice and his extremely likable stage presence is remarkable.

He starts blowing the audience away in the middle of the song when he hits a high note. After a deafening applause, Mike was definitely a bit emotional. Judge Mel B said that she didn’t know if Mike was ready to perform on a stage such as America’s Got Talent, but all other judges voted yes and Mark progressed to the next round. The man even got a standing ovation from Simon.

Singing has always been Mark’s dream, and the man was even signed to a label years ago and was planning to release his own album. However, those plans went awry when there were financial issues and Mark never got a new record deal.

“I didn’t give up my dream. I just stopped thinking dreams would come true,” Mark said. “I’m still singing so I’m still living. Today is my shot to come out of the subway and sing for all of America. Can’t ask for too much more.”

What a great performance!
