Humans today get a lot of flack. If you’re on social media, you’ll likely hear a story about how people are rude, disconnected, selfish, and the downfall of Earth.

Though the human race is capable of horrible acts, their capacity for love is far greater.

The Ellen Show decided that they would put this to the test. If you’ve ever watched The Ellen Show, you’ll know how the show’s host, Ellen Degeneres, is all about kindness. Ellen wanted to see if people really would be kind and willing to help a complete stranger.

So, in her segment “Cash for Kindness” Ellen sent a member of her crew, Amy, to test the capacity for kindness in strangers.

Wearing a fake pregnancy belly, that made her look as is she was full-term, Amy was parked on the side of a street with a packed U-Haul. She pretended to unpack a box and spill the contents everywhere.

The test was whether or not passersby would help a pregnant woman in need.

Cars were just whizzing by, too wrapped up in their own lives to even notice Amy. A few cars seemed as if they were about to pull over, but they just kept on going and actually drove around her stuff that was spilled on the ground.

Finally, Amy got down on the floor and pretended to cry uncontrollably. Eventually, three people walked by to see what was wrong with her. They asked her if she needed help picked up all the things that were dropped.

The immediately started picked all the spilled balls and office supplies.

That’s when Amy told them that she worked for Ellen and that Ellen wanted to give them money for their act of kindness.

“That was really sweet of you to stop,” Ellen said. “One car actually went out of their way to get around her.”

“I just saw her, she was big and pregnant and she looked like she needed help and I was like she is about to pop I need to go and get her stuff out of the road,” one of the woman explained.

“Yeah, I stopped I though maybe she needed some help,”

And for their act of kindness, Ellen handed each of them $500. Let’s just say they were shocked. I guess being kind pays. Or at least if The Ellen Show is involved. You can watch the footage below.
