The student and gym teacher Kendrick Taylor was just doing his daily routine when he suddenly spotted an elder woman being robbed in a nearby parking lot. He heard a quick scream but didn’t know what was going on at first because he had earbuds in.
He immediately and without hesitation turns towards the yelling of the lady and heads for her assailant. Kendrick – who also spends time in the navy – was absolutely stunned that someone would try to rob an old lady in broad daylight. The criminal pushes the woman to the ground and manages to run away with her purse.
Taylor then proceeds to chase the robber without consideration for his own health. He spends quite some time at the gym, so it wasn’t hard for Kendrick to catch up with the thief and even tackle him to the ground. He manages to control the thief until police officers arrive to make the arrest.
Luckily, the 76-old victim Rosemary Carelton only sustained minor injuries from the incident.
Kendrick was amended for his courage with a medal in a ceremony of the Florida Sheriff department. As for the assailant, he will be charged with robbery on an elderly person.
A few days after the incident, Kendrick Taylor was invited to the Ellen Degeneres show to share his story. When Ellen told him he was a hero, he simply said: “My mom raised me like this”. Kendrick’s mother lives in Chicago is a great inspiration to him.
Ellen decided to give Kendrick a little surprise and his mother made an appearance on the show. As if this wasn’t a large enough surprise, Ellen also gifted the young hero with a $1,000 Visa gift card so that he and his mother could spend Thanksgiving together. He also received a $1000 gift card for both Target and Whole Foods.
However, it didn’t stop there. When Ellen asked where he was studying, he proudly said he was studying audio engineering at Full Sail University. Ellen’s partner Shutterfly then proceeded to donate $10,000 to help Kendrick with his financial situation. The young man was clearly emotional due to all the support and praise he has received.
As Ellen said, the world needs more people like Kendrick Taylor.
