Imagine returning home from an outing and finding your walls and floors covered in blood. It would be a shocking and gruesome scene for anyone to discover.

Their dog, however, was unharmed.

A family from Chesterfield County, Virginia experienced this surprising situation when they returned home and realized their home had been broken into — sadly, a trend that’s been happening in the neighborhood lately.

When the owner of the home, Tristan Murrin, approached his front door — he didn’t notice anything amiss or astray. Everything looked completely normal.

It was when they were greeted by their German Shepherd, Oden, that they realized something was very wrong.

“We noticed something when we walked in, when I walked in with my mother and there is blood spots on the ground, we looked up stairs and you see trails of blood coming from up stairs going all the way down,” Murrin told an ABC News affiliate.

Little did the intruder realize — he chose the wrong house to break into that day. Although Oden is typically gentle and calm, he’s protective and loyal — he’ll do anything to protect his family and their home.

Oden had never once shown signs of aggression, but on this particular day — he had to protect his family’s home and belongings.

Thankfully, nothing was stolen, and Oden was unharmed in the ordeal.

“I think the dog did its job. He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home and he knows that he wasn’t supposed to be in there and he was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing and so he knew to act upon it,” said Murrin.

The police are still looking for the intruder — it’s assumed that whoever had broken into Murrin’s home is severely injured.

There was blood covering the entire upstairs of the house. The family is hoping that by sharing their story on Facebook and by speaking to the local news station, that someone will be able to identify this person.

Murrin’s full Facebook post is below; he couldn’t be more proud of his faithful dog.
