Being a police officer is no joke. Men and women in blue put their lives on the line every day; it’s part of the job. Enforcing the law is serious business, and it can come with plenty of dangers.
Some jobs come with hazards, such as falling off of high places or dealing with heavy machinery. Manual labor can be hard work, but the employees aren’t usually given life-threatening tasks. For police officers, however, the story is completely different.
This job is deadly, and it can’t be taken lightly. The National Law Officers Memorial Fund reports that “since the first recorded police death in 1791, there have been over 21,000 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.” It takes a lot of courage to be a cop, that’s for sure.
While police do take their jobs very seriously, every once in a while they like to have a little fun. Off-duty, they are regular people like you and me. They get swept up in crazy trends, such as the dance challenges that have swept across the internet.
It started with one police department. They put on some music and made their own lip sync video. They posted it online, and they challenged other departments to showcase their own performing skills.
As you can imagine, cops are highly competitive by nature. You pretty much have to be in order to do a job this dangerous. So when the Norfolk Police Department was nominated, they were up for the challenge. In these officers’ minds, there was simply no backing down.
Who knows how much time they put into choreography, but I can tell you this: they completed their video in just one take. The cops selected the song “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, and they put on a stellar lip sync performance in front of the camera.
When they posted the video, they probably imagined that only officers from other departments would see it. But these cops had such funky fresh style that their video went viral. It was trending like crazy, with millions of viewers getting into the groove. So far this video has over 66,000,000 views, and it isn’t finished yet.
The cops enter the scene at the back of the hall, giving each other high fives. As the beat picks up a bit, they start to sway their hips. Soon they are really getting into the rhythm. This video will have you dancing along with them – their energy is infectious!
As the lyrics start, the squad lip syncs along. Each performer is on point, and their timing throughout the entire video is impeccable. Soon these cops are showing off their funkiest dance moves, locking their viewers’ eyes onto the screen. The whole video is so upbeat – and definitely entertaining.
“YOUR WAIT IS OVER!!!!,” the department posted on Facebook. “The Norfolk Police Department was challenged by the Corinth Police Department, Texas to a #lipsync battle and we gladly accepted. As you can see we all had a great time filming the video, which we have to point out was done in #onetake! #NorfolkPD is challenging Seattle Police Department, Norfolk Constabulary, Virginia Beach Police Department, and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.”
The cops from these departments will really have to step it up if they want any chance of beating Norfolk. These officers have talent, and their ultra popular video has the views to prove it.
When we see cops, we often wonder if they are around to arrest someone. We may think of these individuals as all-business, but at the end of the day they are just people. They have passions and talents, and they love to have fun.
