“Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!”

That was the quote from Dr. Peter Venkman as he tried to warn the mayor of impending disaster in the cult classic movie, Ghostbusters.

But one look at this home video and we may have to rethink Venkman’s analogy. Because after watching these furry little friends interact, it’s safe to say that dogs and cats living in harmony isn’t just NOT threatening… it’s downright adorable!

Shot in Chicago on March 5th, the short clip shows a sweet 2-year-old female boxer lovingly tending to her younger roommate, a 9-month-old male tabby cat.

The video begins with the owner walking in on what looks like a peculiar situation.

But as the owner gets closer, it becomes clear that this is just an unusual case of “puppy love”… and a great time to have a video camera!

The boxer even has her paw around the cat and the tabby appears to be fully relaxed, laying on his back.

… and the male tabby returns the affection by grooming the boxer.

And just a few seconds later, the two look like they might be ready for a nap.

Now, this kind of comradery might seem unusual, but a quick Google search reveals a number of similar stories, suggesting the connection between boxers and cats may be more common than we think and, after a little research on the boxer breed, we’re able to shed some light on this “impossible” friendship.

Boxers are naturally friendly, sociable dogs, known for their patience and loving disposition. And with the right training, can be taught to get along with anyone and anything, including cats. In fact, according to Pedigree.com, it’s all in how you make the introduction.

For example, keeping control of your boxer during the initial introduction and ensuring your cat has a quick escape route are two good ways to minimize the stress and encourage a good first meeting.

PetHelpful.com lists boxers as #2 on their list of the 5 Best Dog Breeds for Cats. Written by Dr. Mark from Brazil, boxers have the size and disposition to make great guard dogs and can even be a little possessive when it comes to their family and home.
