The way the little baby elephant moves around the man and keeps snuggling him is so cute! And he is more than happy to cuddle the elephant right back. It’s a sweet moment between the two, and the video makes everyone share in their joy when they watch along.

Considering the reputation of the Rantong Elephant Sanctuary, it is no wonder this elephant loves people so much.

The sanctuary is known for treating the elephants in their care with pure respect and love.

The elephants then return that love and respect ten-fold, as the video below shows!

Elephants are part of the Elephantidae family, the sole remaining family within the Proboscidea order that belongs to the superorder Afrotheria.

Their closest relatives are sirenians, such as dugongs and manatees, and hyraxes. Who would have thought? That’s a fun fact to share at parties!

There are three species of recognized elephants: the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana) & forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis) of sub-Saharan Africa, and the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) of South & Southeast Asia.

How can you tell the difference between these elephants?

Well, the African elephants have “larger ears, a concave back, more wrinkled skin, a sloping abdomen, and two finger-like extensions at the tip of the trunk.”

Asian elephants have “smaller ears, a convex or level back, smoother skin, a horizontal abdomen that occasionally sags in the middle and one extension at the tip of the trunk.”

But the clearest difference: African elephants are larger than their Asian cousins.

At the Rantong Elephant Sanctuary, the sanctuary aims to maintain the well being of the gentle elephants as well as protect elephants in the wild.

Elephants can still be very dangerous, but their dynamic is different when they are raised by humans, as seen below.
