Horses are beautiful animals. Some people use selective breeding to get horses with unique colors and coats. These rare marking on these horses makes them one of a kind. Some of them just got lucky and were born this way, and others were part of a selective breeding program to get their exact markings. See if you can guess which is which.
1. Soft and Pretty
This beautiful horse is known as a cremello. Her coat is a light crème color. It looks like it’s super soft, too. What a pretty pony.
2. Dappled and Darling
This horse is a dappled grey color. His coat is a rare color, and this pattern can only be obtained through selective breeding. Everyone wants a horse like this, but they are rare and expensive.
3. Pretty Pinto
The pinto pattern usually means the color white mixed with another color. In this case, the white is mixed with black. This color combination is not very common, but it sure is beautiful.
4. Pink Perlino
A perlino pattern means the horse has received two copies of the crème gene. Without both copies, this horse would have been a sorrel horse. This is a rare color pattern, and this horse almost looks magical.
5. Beautiful Buckskin
Buckskin horses have a coat that looks like that of a buck. It is a brown or tan color, and they usually have black hair to go with it. The dark and light combination make these horses stand out. They sure are beautiful.
6. Buckskin Pinto
There are buckskin horses and there are pinto horses, but this is a buckskin pinto. These horses have a combination of the buckskin coat and the pinto coat. They are tan or brown with spots of white on them, as well. They are unique and eye-catching.
7. Silver Dapple Pinto
The dapple gene mutates the black color in a horse’s coat and causes it to have white or grey spots. Silver dapple pintos are a combination of pinto and dapple horse coat colors. It’s rare, and people pay a lot of money for these horses.
8. Ravishing Red Rabicano
This beautiful horse has a red coat that is flecked with white. The roaning pattern can occur on any part of the body, but it typically shows up on the torso, where it is the most noticeable. Some horses also have white in their tails.
9. Sabino
The sabino horse is a horse with white spots all over it. The spots can be big or small and can appear on any part of the horse. The other colors on a sabino horse can vary. Sabino DNA tests can prove that a horse is a real sabino and does not have another coat pattern.
10. Slinky Silver
A silver buckskin is a rare color combination or pattern. It has a silver color but also shows shades of tan. The pattern is caused by a gene that dilutes the black color in a buckskin horse to make it appear silver or gray. These horses are stunning.
11. So, So Sooty
The sooty buckskin horse has a similar pattern to a regular buckskin but also has a black mask and may have black on the spine. These horses have dark hair and tend to have a smoky appearance. They are very noticeable and stand out in a crowd.
12. Smooth Like Champagne
This horse is called a champagne. It’s the color of champagne, and from the looks of its coat, it’s just as smooth. While their coats are beautiful, it’s their hazel eye and pink freckled skin that stand out. At birth, champagne horses have bright blue eyes.
13. Gold Champagne
This is similar to the champagne coat, but it’s a lighter color. These horses resemble palominos, but they are lighter colored. They have white hair, and some even have white flashes. Their bodies are a subtle gold color.
14. Gray Brindle
This is a really rare color for a horse. They have a brindle coat with gray in it. They almost look like some type of zebra. These horses are expensive because they are very rare, and it takes some selective breeding to get one.
15. Chocolate Flaxen
This horse looks too pretty to be real, but it’s an actual coat color. These horses are almost completely black or can be a dark chocolate brown. They have lighter manes and tails that can have streaks of black or brown in them. This horse is gorgeous.
16. Leopard Print
Appaloosa horses are black and white, but how many of them are spotted? A rare variation of the Appaloosa called the leopard Appaloosa is white with black spots. These horses kind of look like Dalmatians, and they are just lovely.
17. Blue Roan
The blue roan is a rare color of horse. They have a dark gray to blue coat, and there may be flashes or strikes of white or silver. They often have dark black manes and flecks of black on their bodies.
18. Red Roan
Red roan horses are rare and beautiful. You won’t see them very often, but when you do see one, you won’t forget its beauty. They are typically tan or brown with a red flecking or stripes. Their manes are typically a red color, as well.
19. Masked Horse
This horse has a mask around its face. This isn’t a particular type of coat, more of a genetic mutation. Some horses have masks around their eyes just like others have patches on their legs. Either way, this horse is amazing to look at.
20. Friesian/Appaloosa
This pretty pony is a mix of the Friesian and Appaloosa coat colors. They are often white or grey with black spots. They tend to have black manes, too. They are incredibly beautiful.
21. White Face
This horse is almost completely brown, but he has a white face. It’s a unique pattern but one of chance. No amount of breeding can produce a horse like this; it’s just the luck of the draw. He’s a lucky guy.
22. So Much Horse
This horse is so much horse that his coat actually spells out the word “horse.” This is really weird but really cool. Do you think the horse knows it?
23. Silver Dapple/Chocolate Roan
Isn’t this horse beautiful? It’s mix of a silver dapple and a chocolate roan. It has a silver coat and a beautiful dark chocolate mane. It’s just too pretty for words.
24. Chocaloosa
This is a type of Appaloosa, but she has chocolate colors. She has the same white spots, but instead of a black or gray coat, hers is chocolate. So rare and so pretty.
25. Chocolate Chestnut Sabino
This beautiful horse is a chocolate chestnut sabino. It has a chocolate and white coat but a shiny red mane. This rare beautify is something you don’t see every day.
26. Golden Brindle
Brindle horses are rare and beautiful, but gold brindles are even rarer. They can be hard to notice from a distance, but once you see them up close, you will be amazed by the beautiful colors in their coats. They sparkle in the sunlight, too.
27. Black and White
This horse is all white other than its black mane. It also has a black tail. You don’t see this color combination often, at least not like this. There are a lot of black and white horses, but not very many like this.
28. Big Eyes
This little horse may not be very old, but he sure is pretty. He has a rare pattern around his eyes that makes them appear bigger. The light skin catches the light and shows off those big brown eyes. He sure is a cutie.
29. Just Some Makeup
This horse looks like it’s wearing makeup. The white around its eyes and nose are unique. They give this horse some personality and make it look even more beautiful.
30. Just A Little White
This baby doesn’t know how pretty she is. Her head and part of her legs are white, but the rest of her is red. Her markings are almost perfectly balanced. She’s going to look even better when she’s all grown.
31. Hot Purple
This horse is so red that he looks purple. No, it’s not Photoshopped; that’s the real color. Some colors are just a little darker than others, and this horse just happened to get a strong red coat that borders on being purple. He’s unique, though.
32. Half and Half
This horse is dapple in the front and dapple in the back, but she is pure white in the middle. This is a strange marking, but it just makes her that much prettier. That hair is beautiful, too.
33. Brown In The Middle
This horse’s markings are pretty spectacular. That white face and backside sure do stand out against that brown pattern in the middle. Even the eyelids are white. What a beauty.
34. Just Some Smoke
This horse is white and brown, which are normal colors to see on a horse. Then, you notice that smoky patch near the back thigh. That’s a strange color combination, but it defiantly makes this horse look awesome.
35. Skeleton Horse
The markings on this little horse make it look like it was dressed up for Halloween. It kind of resembles a skeleton. This rare pattern is the result of genetics, and it’s not something that happens often.
